EVOLUTION

Right, so we all know how the Evolution mechanic works in Pokémon, where when a Pokémon reaches certain level it will evolve into something different/"better". There are of course exceptions where evolution happens due to being traded while it is holding a certain item, or it levels up at a particular location/time or while happy.

The Point

So I'll get to the point.

Say you have a Scyther (for this it'll be Nature Type) Mr Scyther is Nature type and is weak against Fire, you can keep fighting Fire types using Mr Scyther. Using mainly his scythes slashing at the Fire types, after so long he'll reach a point to evolve, but only parts of him gain "xp" since you've been using his scythes they will evolve.  They might get bigger or change some new form, but they can also gain an elemental attribute, either Passive or Aggressive (I did think of a better catch way to describe it but forgot). Passive would be where it gains the element of the monsters you were fighting, so Scyther would gain Fire Scythes, or Aggressive where he'd gain an element to counter the type he was fighting, so Ice Scythes.

These evolutions will give slight boosts to the defense of the element it takes on, it may have fire scythes, but its bulk is still nature. The evolution has just let it inherit what it was fighting, whereas if it gained Ice Scythes it has gained a massive advantage to fighting against that type.

This can apply to any body part and factors such as terrain which I'll go over next post as its pretty late.

The evolution I see for this MMO is one more realistic, all be it on crack, based on how evolution works in the real world.

Quick Overview:
Evolution is where (this is basic shit right here) something changes to be better suited to its environment, this could one or many aspects of the thing.

I feel this should be how it works in the game, the activity, the location and how the activity is being done should all factor in to the evolution. The evolution will also not be a complete overhaul, it will be an evolution of a specific body part, stat or ability.
The monsters will be broken down into sections that can evolve and each area will of course affect what the monster can do.

Body Areas

Legs/Wings:

Running Speed:
Self explanatory

Specific Attacks:
Gain the ability to use kicking abilities, altering power, abilities that are like Hyper Beam need legs that are sturdy for the push back.

Carrying Weight:
Stronger legs means the monster can carry more, so more bags for items or more people (dependent on body size/type)

Terrain/Weather Crossing:
Swimming, Deserts, rocks, different legs/feet and wings aid and enable the crossing of different land or weather types.

Mobility:
How well it can turn at speeds, agility, something can be fast but terrible and dodging etc.

Legs and wings gives you a good idea of the types of things these could affect, though under "arms" lots of things could be, tentacles, scythes etc. Most of which would mainly effect physical attacks.

Others are Head/Jaws, Upper/Lower Body, Tails, Skin/Scales/Fur, Horns/Hair/Frills.

Elemental Type:

With physical evolution there can also be elemental evolution, not necessarily joined with the physical.
All the different types I've not really thought about, but a rough definite list would be:

Fire, Ice, Electric, Dragon, Light, Dark, Nature, Rock,

I'll go over the types in detail later.

Basics

For this MMO to be as awesome as I dream it of being (When Nintendo finally realizes how much money there is to be made) there are some basic general things I feel it needs to be a good overall MMO.

Platform:
This as its an MMO will be on PC, it can be on consoles but due to less control it may not work as well, though what I have in mind it should be fine. Though cross play from PC to console will probably be a no as people will moan that keyboard and mouse it better or visa versa, so competitive play would be out at least for cross platform.

Style:
The style should be a fully 3D and set in an open world, good examples of similar detailed worlds and play style are that of Guild Wars 2 or Skyrim. They are essentially two different game types; but the highly detailed and large worlds they offer are amazing for a Pokémon type MMO.
GW2 is the MMO with the world size and detailed graphics which all current MMOs should aspire to have, where as Skyrim still has a massive world but is completely open to the player, who can go wherever they want, with no level restriction or blockages to entire open areas of the world.

This isn't many basics, mainly because any other "basic" things I want to say here, would only make sense with a lot of explaining, which I really want to do, but not to clog this up, mainly how I see the whole Evolution of the monsters working.

This is just going to be a place where I post ideas for a Pokémon-esk MMO style game, which I really think should be made in this day n' age. I honestly don't expect anyone to find, read or comment on any of this, I just felt like having something to type away at in my spare time.
I don't really have anything method or structure in mind as to how I'll go about describing, in as much detail as I can, this MMO, it'll just be posts now and then of mechanics or areas etc I've thought of. I'll ofc have each post on a specific idea, and not just a rambling mess.
As said its a Pokémon-esk game, as the way Pokémon is really wouldn't work too well, even if you disregarded the terrible anime (Purely because Ashe is a tard) the world defined in the games is too lovely, child filled and small (I know you could blow it up, but I feel all the towns, cities etc, just make it too dense).

So yeah, will be a Blog of ideas for an MMO which has basic Pokémon mechanics, I'll define next post.
